I am a bit confused. What is the difference between a Marathi and a Hindi Signboard? Both use the Devnagari script and conversion of proper nouns into Devnagari should be same. The only visible difference is that the so called Marathi Signboards appear to write the same name in a distorted way to make it look different than Hindi.

Recently, BMC has served notice to over 1000 shop owners to put-up Marathi Signboards citing an existing law. There is an obvious connection between BMC’s notice and the warning issued by Raj Thackeray. The Congress government is trying to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds. It certainly raises doubt over Congress’s stated intentions. Are they really serious in taking any action against the vandalism of MNS and Raj Thackery or they are happy to see and support the rise of Raj Thackery who will ultimately cut into Shiv Sena’s vote bank.
