This time it was Jaya Bachchan’s turn to fuel the fire. The remark she made about Marathi was totally avoidable. From the video clip it appears that she intentionally took a dig at Raj Thackeray. Perhaps she would have thought that the latest court gag on him would keep him silent. If that was the plan obviously it has failed and in fact boomeranged on Jaya. After Raj’s predictable outburst and warning not to allow any Bachhan film to be released in Maharashtra, Jaya had no options but to tender an apology as demanded by Raj. She couldn’t have risked the upcoming releases of Big B and Junior B. The explanation given by Jaya Bachchan is absolutely unconvincing – she has said that the remarks were aimed at those actors who prefer to speak English. If that was the case what was the provocation to mention Marathi? What she had said doesn’t corroborate at all with the explanation. Although, I am totally against Raj Thackeray for his open Dadagiri, this time my sympathies are with him. I hope the Bachchans would learn their lesson now and would not try to instigate a person like Raj Thackeray without any provocation.

Bachchan-Raj Thackeray war continues
Posted in Politics and Society | Tags: Big B, Jaya Bachhan, Marathi, Raj Thackeray

You are just saying you are against Raj Thakray, to me you seem to be a sympathizer. Who the hell is he to tell people what language to speak and what food to eat, in a democratic country. I mean he has right to put his views, but how can he force it. This twit should be sent to Siberia so he can let us live happily.
This Raj fellow should be punished so bad that he can’t create a divide in India any more. He is trying to create another Kashmir in Maharashtra.
I hope people of Maharashtra understand his divide India policy. He is not a leader. Let me ask you, what has this guy ever done for Maharashtra, except for giving violence provoking slogans. I hope the people of Maharashtra, the state of Shivaji the great, does not take him seriously. He is not a leader of any sort. He is just taking advantage for his own benefit.
I sincerely hope something is done against him soon.

Thanks for taking time to read my post and giving your comment.
I entirely agree with you that people like Raj Thackeray should get the maximum punishment for trying to highjack the Indian politics.
I am not a Raj Thackeray sympathiser at all. All I meant was that Jaya Bachhan could have behaved more maturely by not trying to instigate him. What he did in retaliation was not difficult to anticipate. If she really wanted to lock horns with him, she shouldn’t have tendered an apology at the drop of the hat. The explanation given by her for her remarks is absolutely ridiculous.
Once again, this does not mean any sympathy towards people like Raj Thackeray and people like him should be dealt with very firmly by the law.

Well, God knows when this all will end! These people have all the free time to make huge issues about such small statements…I think nobody is less! Both the sides are just not leaving any chance to post sarcasm on each other!

Only the brain dead would not be able to pick the Thackerays’ hypocrisy apart. Like I read in another blog post, and elsewhere earleir in media reports, the key is for the media to but their responsibility over good saleable copy, and blank the bullshit. Ignore them completely. That would hurt.

Very well written blog ! I totally agree that Thackeray does this for his own political gains, however Jaya Bachans comments we unwarrented and her apology didn’t make any sense. What she said was totally disrespectful to the people of Maharashtra, if she was condeming the use of English why apologise to the people of Maharasthra ?

I think Jaya was wrong she just want to put oil in fire of Raj’s agenda. The comment she made was totally against the Marathi people she should apologia in proper way & should satisfy Marathi Manus & if she don’t then she knows the power of Raj but BigB knows that & he immediately apologize for Jaya’s comment he culd not play with his carrier for any political issues and remember
“Janmbhoomi se Karmbhoomi Adhik Shreshth Hoti Hai !!!” Jai Hind……Jai Maharashtra………..

The biggest joke is the name of his party “Maharashtra Navnirman Sena”. Hope he understand the mean of the word “Navnirman”. Seriously fed up of all this crap of Marathi Marathi everywhere. The condition of Marathi schools are in tatters, why doesn’t he do something for it? A state wont become a great on the basis of language alone- its the people and till the time we have such idiots here- the situation is going to decay day by day.
I feel proud to be born in a state where Shivaji Maharaj was born. Now the name Maharashtra is just for namesake. Nothing Maha (great) about it.

His uncle was also foremost in shouting Marathi Marathi but the kids have studied in English medium schools ? They are just trying to fool the Marathi manoos for the sake of votebank. Why none of the riots took place on the grounds of Kohinoor mills ? Is it because Raj owns that land or is it a coincidence ?
